Why buy a jar of seasoning that is mostly salt when you can make your own. You probably already have all the ingredients, and you can customize it to your taste.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Paprika hungarian sweet
  • 1 tbsp Cayenne powder
  • 1 tbsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tbsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbsp Oregano
  • 1 tbsp Black Pepper fresh ground is best

  • Mix all ingredients together

Notes

This is a basic Cajun seasoning mixture. Scale it to make as much or as little as you like.
I don’t like to put salt in the blend because it settles unpredictably. Just add salt to the dish separately when seasoning, that way you can control the salt level more precisely.
Customize the blend to your liking, for example leave out the Cayenne if serving to small children. I like to add extra hot pepper powder such as bird’s eye chili, or “ghost” pepper. Celery salt and white pepper are also popular.
